Professor Loïc Lang-Lazdunski

Consultant Thoracic Surgeon
Professor Loïc Lang-Lazdunski, MD, PhD, FRCS(Eng), graduated from Xavier Bichat Medical School, Paris, France, in 1991. He trained in general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery and thoracic transplantation in the Paris university hospitals rotation (1991-97). He worked as a research fellow at Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA, in1998. He returned to Paris and worked three years as Assistant Professor of cardiothoracic Surgery and was awarded a PhD summa cum laude in 2000 for his research.
In 2003, he was appointed as consultant thoracic surgeon at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital in London, UK. He was promoted to Reader in Thoracic Surgery in 2011 and full Professor of Thoracic Surgery at King’s College London in 2012 (Chair in Mesothelioma). He was a visiting professor at several prestigious thoracic surgery units in Europe and North-America between 2003 and 2020.
In 2020, he was recruited to help create a national mesothelioma program in Quebec and was appointed Professor of Thoracic Surgery at Laval University-Quebec Heart and Lung Institute.
In 2023, he returned to Europe and started his practice at Clinique de Genolier and Clinique Générale Beaulieu in Geneva, Switzerland.
He is recognized internationally as an expert in the field of pleural mesothelioma, in complex thoracic surgery for lung cancer and mediastinal tumors and in minimally-invasive thoracic surgery. He has operated on more than 5000 patients with cardiothoracic problems in his career and treated more than 1000 patients with pleural mesothelioma.
He has contributed to many surgical textbooks and published more than 120 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and made numerous presentations at international scientific meetings . He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was a member of the UK National Cancer Research Institute (2007-14). He has trained more than 30 young cardiothoracic surgeons from all over the world.
